Is Jennifer Lawrence a bad actress?

I would say she is one of the better actresses in her generation.

Watch Winter’s Bone (2010)

Forget the commercial Hunger Games(2012,2013,2015), X Men First Class (2011),X Men Apocalypse(2014). She wasn’t bad, it was just acting in superhero movies.

Watch Silver Lining’s Playbook (2012). Forget Joy (2015). Look at American Hustle (2013).

I would say she is better than most of her generation for Bones..

Is she overrated/pushed by academy/critics?

Of course. Every generation we have such phenomenon.She is white, American, talented, pretty and likeable -what better candidate? I thought it would be Amy Adams at one point. Then I thought the ‘chosen one ‘ would be Lupita Nyongo this decade, after her 12 Years a Slave role. But she isn’t a white American, eh?

Lawrence is currently experiencing an America's Sweetheart status that seems to predate these cynical, media-savvy times.

Lawrence is giving the people what they want — by reminding us that what we want is bogus. And all it takes to do that is to be someone who colors just a tiny bit out of the lines. Her talking points are “no talking points.”

I think what you’re proving is that she’s entertaining to watch, which is definitely different. (…). Every time I see Jennifer Lawrence on an award show when she’s asked to read lines off of a teleprompter, I can’t help but notice that she freezes. Once she gets out of the comfort zone that is her own bubbly personality, she flounders. I think that’s indicative of a certain shallowness in terms of her acting ability. She can mug for the camera (or, even, be convincing in a drama, as she was in Winter’s Bone!), but I don’t think she’s a very skilled performer. Every emotion is on the surface, right out in the open. A movie star, yes. An actor? Hardly.
